Zodiac Compatibility by Element: Why the Long-Haul Score Repeats Across Pairs

Zodiac Compatibility by Element: Why the Long-Haul Score Repeats Across Pairs

Read zodiac compatibility from the element table first. Why Long haul is not unique to your pair, why the base overall is an average, and how the Moon, Venus, Mercury, Mars, Sun season, and date variation move today’s score.

SCHROE Editors

At 8 a.m. on Saturday, Chaewon sat on a bench outside her local library and opened her phone instead of her lunch bag. A friend had asked the night before: you are Pisces, so what score do you get with Cancer? Chaewon tapped the two signs and saw one big number, then more numbers below it: a score for today, a base score, Chemistry, Talking, and Long haul. Which of these belonged to this pair alone, and which were shared with other pairs?

Chaewon is a fictional person created for this article. The screen names and score rules she follows are taken from schroe.kr's zodiac compatibility code and locale files in the October 2026 deploy. This article does not walk through all twelve signs pair by pair. Instead it shows how to find your pairing in an element table first, then read the result screen in a fixed order, following Chaewon through one day. Knowing where a number comes from lets you read a pair you have never seen before, which memorizing pair write-ups cannot do.

Morning: find the elements before the score

Chaewon's first job was not memorizing scores. It was checking the element of each sign. In SCHROE's code the twelve signs divide into four elements like this.

| Element | Signs | |---|---| | Fire | Aries, Leo, Sagittarius | | Earth | Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn | | Air | Gemini, Libra, Aquarius | | Water | Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces |

Why elements first? Because this compatibility calculation has two layers. First, each sign pair has its own assigned score. Second, each pairing of elements has its own score as well. If you do not know the elements, you cannot tell where the second number came from, and you can easily mistake the long-haul number below for a score unique to your pair.

Element order does not matter. Fire meeting Water and Water meeting Fire are the same Fire and Water pairing. So four elements make ten pairings: four same-element pairings and six mixed ones. Twelve signs make 78 pairs including same-sign pairs, but there are only ten element pairings. That gap is the starting point of this article.

The chart above shows the same element information in a different shape from the table in the text. Find the two elements by row and column, and the tile where they meet holds the long-haul value explained next.

How to find your pairing in the element table

Take Chaewon's pair. Chaewon is Pisces and the other person is Cancer. Both are Water, so the pairing is Water and Water. In the element table, the Water row and Water column meet at element overall 75 and Long haul 68.

Here are all ten pairings at once. With this one table you can find the second number for any pair.

| Element pairing | Element overall | Chemistry | Talking (element value) | Long haul | |---|---|---|---|---| | Fire and Fire | 68 | 82 | 70 | 58 | | Earth and Earth | 72 | 60 | 75 | 82 | | Air and Air | 70 | 72 | 85 | 55 | | Water and Water | 75 | 80 | 78 | 68 | | Fire and Air | 72 | 80 | 75 | 62 | | Earth and Water | 70 | 65 | 70 | 75 | | Fire and Water | 42 | 60 | 35 | 32 | | Fire and Earth | 48 | 52 | 45 | 50 | | Earth and Air | 45 | 42 | 52 | 40 | | Water and Air | 52 | 55 | 60 | 45 |

One point matters most here. The Long haul score is not recalculated for each sign pair. In the code, Long haul simply takes the value attached to the element pairing. So Cancer with Pisces is 68, Cancer with Scorpio is 68, and Scorpio with Pisces is 68, because all three are Water and Water. Change the pair but keep the element pairing, and Long haul does not move. Chemistry works the same way: it also takes the element pairing value as it is.

Talking is a little different. The screen does not use the element Talking value on its own. It mixes that value with the pair's overall score, then squeezes the range toward the middle before showing it. So Talking can differ a little from pair to pair. Long haul and Talking may look like sibling details, but they are built on different paths.

Why does this distinction matter? If Long haul comes out low and you read it as "these two specific people will not last," you have misread the number. Its scope is not those two people; it is the whole element pairing. The reverse also holds. A high Long haul is not a guarantee unique to your pair, because every Earth and Earth pair gets 82.

Midday: a reading order for the result screen

At lunch, Chaewon reopened the result screen in the library cafeteria. This time she did not skim the numbers top to bottom. She split them in the order below.

1. Separate today's Relationship Rhythm from the base score first

Near the top of the screen, Today's Relationship Rhythm appears in large type. Today's overall score sits big in the center, with the base Relationship Rhythm score written separately below it. Under that come four of today's scores as bars, Romance, Friendship, Everyday Coordination, and Communication, each with its difference from the base. At the bottom is a one-line Today's Highlight.

The reading rule is simple. If you want the pair's date-independent standard, read the base score. If you want today's flow, read today's score. Mixing the two into one number makes you mistake tomorrow's movement for the pair's fixed character, because today's score is the base score plus today's movement.

2. Check that the base overall is an average

The base overall is the pair score plus the element overall, divided by two. For Chaewon's Cancer and Pisces, the pair score is 88 and Water and Water element overall is 75, so the average is 82. Recalculating all 78 pairs from the same code gives a mean base overall of 61, a highest value of 82, and a lowest value of 40. The 82 appears for two pairs, Cancer with Pisces and Scorpio with Pisces.

Why average at all? A pair score alone would leave only that pair's story, and an element score alone would leave only ten stories. Averaging reflects both layers, but it also pulls an extreme pair score toward the element side. That is why 88 becomes 82. So when you read the base overall, it helps to ask which side, pair score or element overall, pulled the number up.

3. Check whether each detail shares the same source

Among the details, Chemistry and Long haul take the element pairing values as they are. Talking mixes the overall score with the element Talking value and squeezes the range. The scores that follow, such as Romance, Friendship, and Everyday Coordination, also mix the overall and element values at different ratios, so they are not all the same kind of number.

The Relationship Metrics lower on the screen need their own split. They are First Impression, Growth Potential, Long-term Stability, and Conflict Frequency. Long-term Stability sounds like Long haul, but it is not the same number. It recalculates the element Long haul together with the overall score, so it can differ by pair. Not confusing the raw element Long haul with the remixed Long-term Stability is the most important split on this screen. Conflict Frequency also carries a note that lower is calmer, so check its reversed direction here too.

4. Read element notes, evaluation, strengths, and conflict after the numbers

Only after splitting the numbers should you read the Element Combination notes, the Overall Evaluation, Relationship Strengths, the Conflict Navigation Guide, and Relationship Stages. Those texts are chosen in response to the scores, so reading text first can make it feel like a firmer conclusion than the numbers behind it. Reversing the order lets you trace "why did this sentence appear" back to the numbers.

This article does not cover the paid premium zodiac reading. The free scores and notes are enough to read in the order above.

Two afternoon examples: same table, different things to read

In the afternoon, a friend asked Chaewon to check a second pair in the same table. Two examples are enough. Rather than adding more pairs, this article takes one pair all the way apart.

Example 1. Cancer with Pisces: a high overall, but Long haul is shared by all Water pairs

Cancer and Pisces are both Water, so this is Water and Water. Pair score 88 and element overall 75 average to a base overall of 82, the highest among the 78 pairs. Chemistry uses the Water and Water value of 80 as it is, and Long haul uses the Water and Water value of 68 as it is. Talking comes out at 75 after mixing.

What Chaewon wrote down was not "an 82-point pair." It was: the pair score is high and the element side is also high, so the average came out high, but Long haul 68 is not unique to this pair because every Water pair shares it. Turning a number into a sentence like this means the same 68 on another Water pair will not surprise you. You already know why it repeats.

Example 2. Aries with Cancer: split Long haul away from a low overall

Aries is Fire and Cancer is Water, so this is Fire and Water. Pair score 40 and element overall 42 average to a base overall of 41. Chemistry is the Fire and Water value of 60, and Long haul is the Fire and Water value of 32. Talking comes out at 45 after mixing.

The reason not to judge the relationship from Long haul 32 alone is clear here. That 32 was not measured from Aries and Cancer as two specific people. It is the standard value attached to the Fire and Water pairing, shared by all nine Fire and Water pairs. A careful reading separates three things: the base overall of 41 came from both the pair score and element overall being low, and Talking at 45 has a different source from the 32 because it was remixed.

Side by side, the two examples show the rule. The overall changes by pair, but Chemistry and Long haul repeat whenever the element pairing repeats. So when you spot a repeated number on a result screen, do not treat it as an error. First check whether it belongs to the element layer.

Evening: six reasons today's score moves

On the way home in the evening, Chaewon wondered whether today's score would still be the same tomorrow. In the code, six inputs move today's score. Rather than only naming planets, here is which score each input touches and why.

| Today's input | Scores it mainly moves | Why | |---|---|---| | Moon brightness | Today's overall, Romance, Communication | The bonus changes by brightness band | | Element of the sign Venus is in | Romance | The size of the Romance movement changes with that element | | Whether Mercury is retrograde | Communication | Inside the listed retrograde periods, the Communication movement turns downward | | Element of the sign Mars is in | Everyday Coordination | The Everyday Coordination movement changes with that element | | Sun season | Today's overall | If the sign the Sun is in matches either of the two signs, the overall gets a bonus, and a shared element alone gets a smaller bonus | | Date variation | Today's overall | A value made from the date and the sign pair changes when the date changes, and stays the same for the same date and pair |

Do not leave out Sun season and date variation. Explaining today's movement only with the Moon, Venus, Mercury, and Mars omits two inputs that are actually in the code. Date variation in particular moves with the calendar itself, not with a planet position, so planet explanations alone cannot explain today's number. In numbers, Sun season adds +5 when the Sun's sign matches either sign and +2 when only the element matches, while date variation ranges from -5 to +5.

These six inputs never change the base score. They are added only to today's scores, such as today's overall and today's Romance, and the result is kept between 0 and 100. So even if yesterday and today differ, the pair's base Relationship Rhythm has not changed. Chaewon's evening note summed it up: the base score is the pair's own standard, and today's score is just the day's variation on top of it.

Chaewon's day on one page

| Order | What to look at on screen | Question to check | |---|---|---| | 1 | The two signs' elements | Which of the ten pairings is ours | | 2 | Base overall | Did the pair score or the element overall pull it | | 3 | Chemistry and Long haul | Is this number the element value as it is | | 4 | Talking and Relationship Metrics | Is this number remixed, and does it only sound like Long haul | | 5 | Today's Relationship Rhythm | How far is it from the base, and which of the six inputs moved it | | 6 | Element notes and Overall Evaluation | Am I reading the text knowing where the scores came from |

From the library bench in the morning to the road home at night, Chaewon did not memorize more pairs. She found her pairing in the element table, split the numbers by source, and set today's movement aside as the date's share. With this order, you can read a zodiac compatibility result you are seeing for the first time in the same way. A score is not a measured probability that a real relationship will work. Use it only as a prompt for reviewing real conversation and daily rhythm together.

To try it with your own pair, pick two signs at zodiac compatibility and read them in the same order as the table above.

Zodiac compatibility results are for light reference only. Please do not use them as the basis for important decisions. The screen order, labels, and score rules in this article were checked in schroe.kr code (zodiacCompatibilityScores.js, zodiacCompatibility.js, ZodiacCompatibilityResult.jsx) and locale files in the October 2026 deploy. All 78 pairs were recalculated from the same code's pair scores and element table. Chaewon and the numbers for the two example pairs are code-based calculations, not measurements of real relationships. No schroe.kr user results were used.
